Langkawi, We Were Here

A little recap of all that happened.

22/ 10/09 : Took off from Kolej Cemara Akasia at around 6-ish. Our destination? UiTM Perlis. We stayed for one night then the morning after, we were all sent to Kuala Perlis Jetty. Got on the ferry at around 11-ish. Everyone was super excited!

23/10/09 : Arrived at Langkawi! We checked-in into our hotel, Aseania Hotel, and had some free time to explore the surrounding area. At 5 o'clock, we had our Sports session, we played beach volleyball, ran around on the beach and even did some 'rock climbing'. Later on after maghrib, we had a delicious dinner and the Nihongo session started. First, we had to answer a quiz about Japan. Did you know that the current population of Japan is an estimated 125 million? Malaysia's population is only a fifth of that amount. Then, Kamiliah-sensei gave a presentation about the lifestyle, the quirks and helpful hints that we needed to know about Japan. It was great. Japan is such a 'compacted' country. And OMG, the level of cleanliness is just surreal!

24/10/09 : After a hearty breakfast, we set off exploring Langkawi. We went to a gamat factory, some souvenir outlets, an arts & craft exhibition, Makam Mahsuri and the Cable Car. Oh yeah, it started pouring like mad when we finally reached the top of the mountain. Sad, much?! But after it all cleared up, the view from up top, was amazing. Again, had dinner at the hotel. Afterwards, Kamiliah-sensei gave a few words and assigned all of us with the task of writing up a report on all the stuff we'd been doing and we had to do it Japanese. The report's due next Monday guys. The whole day was really tiring, so after that we all went to bed.

25/10/09 : We check-out around 12-ish. Went to the jetty, got on the INTEC bus and headed back to KCA.

All in all, this was an awesome trip. We learnt a lot, laughed a lot, all this in scenic Langkawi.

Langkawi Trip 2009

Date : Departure - 22 October, 17:00 from Kolej Cemara Akasia

The journey should take around 7 - 8 hours. We'll be spending the night at UiTM Perlis. The morning after, the buses will take us to Jetty Kuala Perlis.

First day - From morning till late afternoon, we'll go sightseeing around Langkawi. Evening, you guys have time-off, to relax. That night, Nihongo activities (anggap ni sebagai rensyuu untuk Ni-kyuu lah.)

Second day - Morning till noon, main bersama. Noon till evening, Nihongo activites. Night, onaji.

Third day - Depart from Langkawi aroun noon. Arrive at hostel, around maghrib/ isyak.

ps/ Breakfast and dinner, supported. Lunch, nada.

Any other updates, I'll let you guys know.

Nagaoka Kosen

A week after Tokyo kosen and Hachinohe kosen came, Nagaoka kosen came. The students of KTJ and them would have a robot building program.

The students were divided into 8 teams and had to build a robot as best as humanly possible. A race was then held at the end to test the capabilities of the made robots.

It was a lot of fun and all the students picked up programming skills.

Tokyo Kosen & Hachinohe Kosen

Below are some of the pics from the two kosens trip to KTJ.

The gruop of around 15 students from Tokyo Kosen and Hachinohe Kosen were greeted by the students of KTJ after classes had ended at 5.00 pm. They were all then taken to the Kolej Cemara Akasia dormitories to settle in and unpack. We all then went to the nearby local Ramadhan bazaar to introduce some Malaysian cuisines to the foreign students. That night, the students of KTJ played a few traditional Malaysian games with the guests.

The next day, a bowling tournament was held at Ole-Ole.

It was a sad farewell when the students had to leave the morning after as a bond had developed between them and the students of KTJ.

Maybe we'll see each other once again in Japan.

Our senpais came to enlighten us on the various aspects of education and life in Japan. The MC was Calvin of Nagaoka Kosen. We were given a brief introduction to Monkasho, application to Japanese Universities and other topics. We were then divided into groups based on the course that we would like to study while in Kosen.

We learnt a lot about what it is that we'll be studying, the lifestyle and school life in Kosen. There was also a quiz.

Later, we also had a Bowling Tournament with the senpais. The champion was Khairil's group with members, Ahmad Fadhil and Fierdous. Congrats, guys.

With that done, we and a few of the senpais that had decided to stay at our hostel for the night went to the nearby bazaar Ramadhan. There was also a 'berbuka puasa'(breaking of fast) dinner.

Huge thank yous from all of us, senpais!

Today is the start of the fasting month Ramadhan.

A little info :

Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎, pronounced: /rɑmɑd̪ˤɑːn/) (also written Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, Ramdan, Ramadaan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured; from dawn until sunset [1]. Fasting is meant to teach the Muslim patience, modesty and spirituality. Ramaḍān is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of God (Arabic: الله‎, Allāh), and to offer more prayer than usual. During Ramaḍān, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. H1N1 Epidemic

Due to the vast AH1N1 outbreaks all over the country, UiTM has declared a week of holiday to inhibit further damage.

The senpais will probably be using this time to study for the upcoming Exams 3 Final. The exam was supposed to be held on the week that the H1N1 holiday was declared.

Words from the Editor of P.A.N.D.A :
1. Wear a mask if you're going outside, especially if you're going to be using public transport.

2. Be vigilant. Have a slight cough or flu? Go to the doctor. You can never be too safe.

3. Wash hands well and frequently. Basically, take hygiene to a whole other level :D

Bon Odori 2009

Venue : Panasonic Sports Centre, Shah Alam, Selangor

After 2 months of training every Sunday, the big day finally came. We went to the venue and practiced a couple of times before the actual performance. Just before going out to the crowd, our hearts were beating like crazy. Memang kinchou habis masa tu.

It was awesome. The crowds were screaming in delight and we ended the night on a high. Next year, maybe we'll even participate in the Bon Odori in Japan. :D

KO-PLN Grp 4; JFKL & IBT

As part of our curriculum, we are to take ko-pln which is Kokurikulum Pelajar Luar Negara. This project is meant to instill good values in ourselves as part of our preparation for life overseas.

This is about the 2 Year's Group 4's project which was an educational trip to Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur and Institute Bahasa TeikYo (Language Institute of Teikyo).

The whole trip was a great success and IBT treated us to an awesome dinner!

I got a little bit upset when ロウ先生 said that たんぽぽ is dandelion. And I got upset even more when she said it is a freaking lalang.

'We must use names of flowers that uses ひらがな in it. Like it or not たんぽぽ is just fine.'

Yeah, so fine that it takes you an hour just to write the whole thing in かん字.

It sounds worse in English. WEED.

Ugh.

Did you ever notice the banner of this blog? The easiest class name to write in かん字 is さくら. Heck, it's the shortest class name even in ひらがな!

And notice how short 二年生のクラスの名前 are. そら（空）、にじ（虹）、ほし（星）.

This is an ultimate discrimination. We should have the names of nature also or something. 「山」とか、「くも」とか、「海」とか。

まあ、「春」、「秋」、「冬」、「夏」　なら　もっと　いい　でしょう？

Dang it. They should've used names of seasons.

OK. Instead of looking at the bad side, let's see what specialty do the flowers have to offer to us.

- Dandelion/たんぽぽ
Flowers can be used to make wine; leaves are edible and good for digestion; roots sometimes used as coffee substitute,

The dandelion is approved by the Commission E for dyspeptic, liver and gallbladder complaints, infections of the urinary tract, and loss of appetite. Other unproven uses include treatment of disturbances in bile flow, inflammation of the efferent urinary tract, dyspepsia, hemorrhoids, congestion in the portal system, gout, rheumatic disorders, eczema and other skin disorders.

The dandelion is considered to be very safe and sometimes carries the slang term, “pee in the bed,” referring to its diuretic ability in increasing water and waste products in the urine. Dandelion has a high potassium content and replaces potassium lost in normal urine secretion, leading to a net gain in potassium levels; this fact is worthy of note because that is not the case with the use of over-the-counter diuretics.

Dandelions are also thought to be effective in helping to ease the ailments of many other conditions including herpes, genital warts, and even obesity. Studies on both rats and humans that involved injecting them with dandelion have resulted in them losing up to 30% of their body weight.

I am so...proud. I should go eat dandelions and lose weight now.

- Cherry Blossom/さくら
After reading Wikipedia, cherry blossom brings no benefit to people, not even...nothing. Although you will feel good and tranquilised and relaxed when picnicking under a blooming cherry blossom tree.

‐ Sunflower/ひまわり
Kuaci, peanut butter alternative, used together with rye flour to make Sonnenblumenkernbrot (literally: sunflower whole seed bread) which is quite popular in
German-speaking Europe, sold as food for birds and can be used directly in cooking and salads, used for cooking, as a carrier oil and to produce margarine as well as biodiesel, the cake remaining after the seeds have been processed for oil is used as a livestock feed.....

Go Wiki for it. It annoys me ひまわり has that many benefits to mankind.

‐ Hydrangea/Hortensia/あじさい
Hydrangeas are moderately toxic if eaten, with all parts of the plant containing cyanogenic glycosides. However, poisoning is rare, as the plant does not look like an enticing food source.
In Korean tea, Hydrangea serrata (hangul:산수국 hanja:山水菊) is used for an herbal tea called ilsulcha (이슬차).
Hydrangea paniculata is sometimes smoked to produce cannabis-like effects.

Ok somehow that is slightly not good. Now that you know it, don't go smoke Hydrangea.

七夕 is a day... according to Wikipedia, a day where people 'celebrates the meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair). The Milky Way, a river made from stars that crosses the sky, separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. はじめましょう。

The Sports Day yesterday was hectic, tiring, a teeny bit messed-up and うるさい, thanks to everyone, i guess. Surely no one can deny that, we were all there.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing though. Look on the bright side. Have you ever been to a student-organised Sports Day?

Adds a little twist of youth in it.

The Publishing Comitee...ok, AJK Penerbitan sounds better, didn't get the chance to go out on the field yesterday. Not just to playlah, obviously. We will be working ourselves off on the next event. Not a promise, but we will. Please think of some decent and appropriate face expressions so we can put up your pictures on the blog. Unless it's candid.

These are a few pictures i've taken, will upload loads more at Fotopage/Flickr/Photobucket(still deciding which one's the best, i just made a new account for every image-hosting site. Please help us on choosing one, please).

The pictures i got from others for now are mostly pictures of 黒たち. So if you please, send as many pictures as you can to our email address, as you can see in the profile section.

はじめましょう。

No this is not about Sports Day. I told you another few(plus ten) hours later that thing will be posted on the web.

This is an open post, something like where you should give ideas on refurbishing this site with cool widgets or any other good online media for archiving stuff about our community. For starters, i suggest(and am going to do it no matter what you say anyway) that we should establish a Fotopage/Flickr page so all of us(一年生) can see an archive of happy pictures of us(一年生) taken by us(AJK Penerbitan or whoever) via the convenience of the Internet. Unless you prefer the traditional cuci-filem-masuk-album ones. I myself prefer Polaroids better.

And about the Fotopage/Flickr thing, i will use Fotopage first because it has unlimited storage, compare to Flickr which has only 100MB for free accounts. Albeit Flickr is way cooler and more user-friendly than Fotopage.

And a few other suggestions:

1. Find(or make one, for those IT savants out there) かっこいい templates
Because currently most of the templates i found don't have links for Comments. We don't want a one-sided communication on this blog, that is what people call selfish, if we do that.

2. Put up widgets like :
- Last.fm
So we can brainwash ourselves with Japanese songs.

- Shoutouts
So we can amuse each other in a very fun and safe way, instantly.

- Kanji of the day
I've seen this one somewhere before, will try to find it later. For your own good too, you know. We have 600++ かん字 to memorise. At least if ロウ先生 finds out about this, she might be slightly relieved that this blog isn't all about intelligence-degrading materials.

-Picture of the day/week/month
This will definitely keep you sticking to this site because your picture will be around for about a day/week/month. I encourage you to bring and use your digicamera/camera phone to snap candids. Just an idea.

-Panda Counter
Panda 'accidents' like あたらしいことば and かん字. We're going to hunt for people who gets a panda, tabulate the data and put it in a special Panda Accidents Record so you won't dare to get another panda again.

OK, the last one's not gonna happen. Heck no we'd waste our time hunting for pandas.

We will also post links to useful websites so you can make use of your internet time a little bit more. It could be about anything; kimonos, tea ceremony, japanese lyrics, online dictionaries, or even promote Japanese artists for no reason whatsoever. And a few patriotic stuff so we won't forget what country we are actually from.

May I, as one of the organisers of this blog, warn you that there will be lorryloads of rojak in the future posts. Heck, there's rojak oredi. And we're not talking about Malay and English only, but also 日本語 Mandarin Cantonese Tamil Hindi ...ok i don't know. It might happen. Just be prepared, in case you're a language-rule freak.

In case, see. Not that I'm saying you are.

And i'll be giving some ground rules here for you, yes you so you'll be able to discipline yourself in the almost-rule-free cyber-world. You know the goverment's recently crazy idea of killing all potential anti-government bloggers, so i am going to filter comments.

We're under the government, in case you still didn't realise that crystal clear fact.

OK, ばかな事 aside(oh, did i mention i'm going to use loads of かん字 too?), let's get on with the rules.

1. No racist/sexist/___ist comments on this blog, despite the fact I'm going to enable the Filter Comment setting. When you are pissed(yes, a few rough words too, pardon, blogging about school won't be as fun if you keep on using formal language is it?) and give out racist/sexist/___ist comments, we the filterers will also be pissed, and end up deleting the post, or worse the blog. Please be like other fellow Malaysians, dan berkomenlah demi negara.

2. Please give comments regarding the topic, because i have had experiences blowing my brains off(no, not literally no) because people keep on getting off-topic. You yourself don't like it when people start going out of the topic, right?

3. DON'T TELL 先生. AND 二年生. OK maybe you can tell 二年生, but just in case i accidentally, yes, accidentally hurt their feelings with whatever words that might come, uhm, type out of my mouth, uhm, fingers. But DON'T TELL 先生. ロウ先生 will kill us all if she knows we(or I, my responsibility) have been feeding thee with such intelligence-degrading blog posts.

4. Do not hack this blog for your own good. No, really. I'm saying that because I don't know you yet, some of you might've hacked CIA or something. You might want to hack and post pictures of you and type HTMLs so pop-ups of 'Yamada-san Wuz Here' would come up for a gajillion times.

5. There's no five. For the moment. I'll keep you posted.

And another precaution: Just in case(again) you're addicted to this blog, may i remind you that we, the PPKTJ-ians don't have a life, meaning we have mountains of しゅくだい to finish, 先生方 to satisfy and barely anytime to breathe, so don't bother opening it daily. Biweekly will do. Or a day or two after any school/student event.

Talk about events, another post will be coming up within a few (plus ten) hours on the Sports Day. Please be eager so we can write more about our almost-boring life.
